"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Christ Church - Pueblo, CO,  based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.
All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these Biblical doctrines.

God

There is only one true God.  He is the creator of all life and the Supreme Ruler of the universe and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  He has always been (He is eternal) and co-exists equally in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We learn about God through His creation, His word, and His Son.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore, is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God loves us more than we can imagine.
Genesis 1:1,1:26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 38:1-41:34; Matthew 3:13-17; John 3:16; Romans 1:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:6

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. He is co-equal with the Father.  He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the only perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross.  He arose physically from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended into Heaven's glory, to the right hand of the Father.  He ever lives to make intercession for us and will return again to earth to reign forever with those who are his.
Matthew 1:22-23; John1:1, 14,18; Colossians 1:13-22; Acts 1: 9-11, 10:42-43; Hebrews 1:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15: 3-8; Philippians 2; 5-11

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and Son as God, and sent from God after Jesus ascended to live inside all who believe in Jesus Christ.  The Holy Spirit lives in every believer from the moment of salvation and teaches, comforts, guides, provides understanding of spiritual truth, and empowers us, giving each follower diverse gifts, Christ-like character and love among Christians.
Acts 1:8; 2:4, 2:38; Romans 5:5 Ephesians 3:16-20; Galatians 5:1;  Corinthians 12:14; Ephesians 3:16-19

The Bible

We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, are the inspired, infallible Word of God.  The Bible is our standard and authority in all we say and do and is the final
authority on all matters to which it speaks.
2 Timothy 2:15; 3:14-17 2; Peter 1:16-21; Psalms 19: 7-11; 119: 9-16, 105; Hebrews 4-12

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin".   This attitude separates man from God.
Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7, Romans 3:23; 5:12-21

Salvation

We believe God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, through his atoning death on the cross, burial and resurrection.  Salvation comes to everyone on the basis of God's grace through faith in Jesus alone, not by any works we do ourselves.  When a person repents of their sins and accepts the free gift of forgiveness from Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, that person is immediately spiritually born again. All their sins are forgiven and are destined to eternal life the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.
Isaiah 59:2; Ephesians 2:1-10; John 3:3; 3:16; Acts 2:38; Hebrews 9:22;Galatians 2:16; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10

Eternity

Man was created to exist forever.  He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is Hell.  To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.  Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
Matthew 5:3, 12, 20, 6:20, 19:21, 25:34; John 17:24; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 9:27; 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8

The Church

The Church is the Body of Christ, meant to be the visible hands and feet of Jesus, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.  The church is not a building or one particular group of believers.  Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of a body of believers.  God's will is for us to gather regularly to worship Him. We are to use our various gifts and abilities to serve, love and encourage those who are in the body.  We are also to make him known, and disciple others, while striving to have spiritual unity in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-20, 2:19:22; John 17: 11, 20-23; Acts 2:42-47; John 13:34-35, 17: 20-23

Marriage

We believe God, not man, created marriage.  We believe marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one person born a man, and one person born a woman, instituted
by and publicly entered into before God.
Genesis 2:18, 24; Isaiah 6:25; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:28-30; Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
